Google is building a plugin which will make possible to stream videos and photos directly from a PC to a TV. With the Google Media Server you will able to watch YouTube movies on your TV using game consoles such as Playstation3 and Xbox360. The media server makes use of Google Desktop to connect between computers and devices who are equipped with Universal Plug ‘n’ Play (uPnP). The application scans your PC for media files and sends them to other AV-devices in your home-network via WiFi. Google Media Server will become a major competitor for Microsoft Media Center and Apple TV. Allthough this all sounds really cool, I do have some concerns with watching low-res YouTube videos on contemporary HD flatscreen TV’s. But knowing Google, I’m quite sure they will launch a ‘HDtube’ in the very near future.
